A First Date

With quivering hearth and shaking legs
youthful courage fought with fear
I stood there quaking loving learning
hoping yearning wanting more

how many chances out of ten
were I to ask you out
without a hint of hesitation
she said I'd give you eight

I thought well that is high enough
and settled down to make the date
we settled on a Friday night
I'd pick her up at sea side pub

she waited out I waited in
we missed that first night out
