A Fast Moving Storm
A flash of light lit up the early morning sky
a flicker fast and quick in yellowed green
a rumble of rolling thunder followed
and off in the distance came the oncoming storm.
No wind, a subtle breeze that teased
droplets hard and tapping drums
then hurried and fast they fell
beating out a rhythmic crescendo
as another wave of light glistened on the buds of trees
and rumblings caused the earth to groan and moan with aching
soaking in the flood of rain pouring down.
Three AM and temps dropped
and spring warm disappeared
to cool the groggy from their winter sleep
and in surprise
the storm was gone
as fast as it had come
washing all night dreams away
with the new awakenings.
