A Fair and Blameless Girl
She was a fair and blameless girl:
An angel to adore
Who trumped in worth the rarest pearl
Like no one else before.
Her parents lived, both old and frail,
Though steadfast to the core,
And her heart ached to see them ail
Like no one else before.
The mother drew her last, sad breath,
Her soul ordained to soar;
The daughter lived and mourned her death
Like no one else before.
Distraught and weak, the father died
Still haunted by the War,
And the poor daughter wept and sighed
Like no one else before.
Her cherished dreams were swept away
And shattered on the floor;
Since then, she dreads the coming day
Like no one else before.
Her story is but only one
Among an ocean more,
And yet she saw her world undone
Like no one else before.
