A Dream of Being a Poet

With a clicking of my typewriter
way back when
I would sit for hours and start writing with my pen
I had visions of seeing my words heard by many
I believe my age was nineteen going on twenty

Though I had no previous schooling on the subject
One of these days I would be seen by the public
With my dictionary by my side
I wrote with all my pride

A rush of emotions would hit during the hour
I even had thoughts while standing in my shower
Soon there was nothing that I didn’t see
That brought out the poet in me

So I stopped to marry this fellow
He was kind of mellow
I would sit and write all through the night
I stopped to become a Mother
that took me away from my other,
passion in my life

So now I’ve found the time to wish away and rhyme
And my dream I dreamed came true
I’m so glad I had that view
Now I’m a published poet
Who ever knew?

Laura that is a wonderful feeling isn't it My poetic background is much shorter - years ago at the age of 41, alone in a prison cell I prayed to God and after the prayer I wrote my first poem - poetry is a wonderful gift to posses- blessings always

Your poetry is beautiful, so the rest of us are glad that you've made time in your life to write! Congratulations on your success! (I'm a late bloomer, but as you said, I find myself thinking of subjects while in the shower! I can't claim to be accomplished...but it's sure enjoyable!) Keep writing, Laura, and thank you for your encouragement. Fondly...Carrie
