A Different Time
To whom it may concern,
When will be the day when political thoughts will evolve, when racism can stop and end this brutality and call it case closed,
I want to be a good man righteously involved
Within this community raped by you all,
I am judged by my skin color and my spoken word, singled out by those with authority and clean uniform,
When will be the day when I'm not seen as ignorant because of where I am from, see I am educated and I speak well enough,
When will these families stop burying their own
Marginalized unjustly for being dead broke,
Many of these souls see the light too soon and are very young, I don't carry a smile as if this was a joke,
When will I walk into a home not broken by these useless drugs, stop generalizing you can't call us thugs,
Give me the right to be a good man and show you results, do not shoot me down if I expose you to my faults,
I ask of a time of prosperity without the severity of punishment from these discriminatory laws,
When can I have a voice and speak from the heart and the top of my lungs, I don't want to be chased by dogs or water cannons as some have before,
When will I have the option to put a roof over my head that perhaps I can afford,
Perhaps I'm too gifted and to get out I must play a sport, or become a survivor of the hood and engage in society's war.
