A Day In the Life

dawning of a new day or close of a day already spent we feel an excitement matters not, matters not we are but a passersby we're here for an instant and we are gone for an eternity if we think upon that thought and let it die slow death we rob thought of substance we walk though the quiet forest road a sense of quiet takes hold to what used to make us sad we pause on our journey find a distorted cypress stump we sit upon its roots listening to nature's song we don't know how we got here don't know how long we'll stay we enjoy the moment we empty our mind of what used to clutter it it’s about sincerity we put pettiness aside we breathe in earth's perfume listen to nature's voice beauty surrounds is ours to behold mists from slow-moving bayou the aroma of pine where salamanders dig do we believe in God at times such as this; yes we do

I now come to your very first post. It's a curious thing...believers and nonbelievers would almost always meet at a certain point, looking at and contemplating nature, to ever agree, almost, that there is a God. Also, "we are here for an instant, and we are gone for an eternity" is another common ground...I have come to appreciate the mind and heart that came up with all these writes. Nice to meet you, Jerry. I'm Kim, and thanks for the visit earlier. Smiles from the isles :)

Thank you for your visit to my work and your most kind comments. I have found myself in moments which you describe here; so lovely and peace filled. Beautiful writing. I read all the comments people have left and see that you are not a believer... that does not come through in this write. True believers would never hold that against you. So glad you joined our community. Hope you find many friends as I have.

Paints a picture. There is a lot in nature that just calms the soul.

Hi Jerry; Thanks for the visit to my page. This is an awesome poem. I believe in God even when I have been at my worst. Right now I am very sick - have been for a year. I still trust in God. I just don't want to die a slow death, but that is not my call. Thanks for sharing this poem with us. Hope to see more..... Lucilla

I agree, Lucilla, I feel the same was. I am not a believer, hope you will not hold that against me. I have always said, if I have that kind of problem I will go another way.

I never feel closer to God than when I am surrounded in nature. You could say Nature is my church. "As the lake mirrors mountains and deep azure sky, We commune together, my God and I" a stanza from my poem Winter Divinity. So you see, we share a kinship. Your poem is just beautiful! Blessings and Welcome to the Soup Jerry!

Thank you Connie for you sweet thoughts. It has taken me many years to appreciate nature as I do these days. Like many people I preferred to live my life selfishly, and I don't mean monetarily, but more fleshly. I've slowed down and can now appreciate what was all around me, but I was blinded.

You are obviously someone who is very reflective. I just live in my mind with words and do not focus that often at looking at things in nature, though I have been inspired many a time by nature when I write. This is very good writing. Speaking of to "rob thought of substance" I think I am thinking too long on that line that came before that one!!!

Hello Andrea, I quite understand you in that you allow nature to exist and not pay much attention to it. I was like that for many years, but have, in the last few years come to appreciate it. Thank you for reading and commenting on my poem.
