A Day In May

If I should paint a day in May,
it must portray a distant time.
Young girl in sunlit garden's way,
her long skirt falls in folds sublime.

Her basket has been over-filled--
lilacs, roses, lavender rest
among blooms so secretly spilled
upon a day in May so blest.

Ann, I echo others' comments on here. A lovely poem rich with description down to the folds in the dress. Just one thing missing though: An original Ann Peck drawing to accompany the work. :) Cheers - Gary

This is really lovely Ann. Beautiful imagery and It reminded me of one of my favourite movies with Audrey Hepburn as the flower girl in "My fair lady." I enjoyed reading this. Cheers my friend :-)

Oops, the model's name was Johnna. How did I come up with Jimma - duh.

Thanks so much, Anne. I actually did do a pastel of a (supposed) Victorian young girl with big hat I decorated with ribbons and flowers. Her name was Jimma and she was lovely. :)

Thanks, Tom. When I could still paint, I loved to paint young ladies as if in the Victorian Era.
