A Day In June
(english sonnet)
In June, a morning, pale and hushed,
sends slanting glow through feathered pine,
and summer's earth, with sunlight brushed,
awaits, serene, for God's design.
A squirrel scampers, unconcerned,
as birds give voice in lilting song—
their peace in tranquil nature earned
through autumns chill and winters long.
So different, we with human hearts,
who witness every break of day
aware, before the morning starts,
that, even now, it mists away.
Embrace of summer ends too soon—
as morning turns to day in June.
