Swamp cabbage is the heart of a palmetto tree. My mom used to like to add a dash of Frank's Red Hot Sauce to hers.

Get yourself some swamp cabbage,
And get yourself some ham.
Get yourself some snap peas ,
And the biggest pot on hand.

Boil it up together,
Over a nice slow fire,
Until it's all real tender,
Then take it from the pyre.

Don't forget the seasonings,
Just salt and pepper's fine,
And serve it up with corn bread,
And folks will stand in line.

I Adore soup, could live on it! Our one son is vegan and loves the following soup. Buyevery veg you can imagine, including tomatoes, baby spinach, onions, garlic, basil, a touch of aniseed, the veg kind, boil this up and put whatever quantity of olive oil you desire, salt and pepper and let it boil for 2 hours, In a separate pot boil up some pasta rice, and when your pot of veg is ready, drain the pot of pasta and marry the two. Grate some parmazan cheese and when serving sprinkle it generously over the top, its yummy. Hugs Jenn.

Hi Anne-Lise, Yes it's a soup and a souper good and good for you. Also if you add a turnip or two to the recipe it helps the flavor. Thanks for stopping by. God Bless, JB
