A City For Losers

Here’s
a place
on the shore
of New Jersey
where many people
go to have a good time.
They are there playing machines
and many other table games
for many hours both day and night.
The giveaway gifts and the promotions.
The complimentary meals and hotel rooms
are all designed to make gamblers feel so welcome.
However, the management knows very well
for as long as they stay, the more they’ll play.
And it’s only a matter of time
before they know the bankroll’s gone.
They have used up their credit
and they don’t have enough
to leave the city
away from here 
and go home
wishing 
they

If they paid out 60 million and it cost 60 million to operate, and the owners kept 60 million more in salaries and expenses, and they paid 60 million in taxes then the people did NOT win the 60 million they paid out, they lost 180 million. The few winners are used for advertising. Congrats on the win.

Russell Sivey December 27, 2011 at 9:38 PM This is one of the greatest poems I have have read that are in the shape format! This is a very difficult form to use and you did so almost perfectly! This would be a great poem to enter Debbie Guzzi's contest called "something different" if this is a poem that isn't common to you to write and is a different format or style that you usually use!
