A Child's Prayer
A Child's Prayer
In his dreams they played ball in the park
A little boy and his doting dad
Their times together were precious
Until things between mum and dad got bad
The little boy knelt by his bed
And murmured a silent prayer
His mum was the best he could wish for
But he wished his dad was still there
'Why did you leave me,Dad?
Why did you leave the family home?
I miss our times together
And I feel so alone
I know that sometimes I was naughty
And your patience at times was tried
But if you could see me now
Your heart would swell with pride
I remember those days we went fishing
You'd let me put the bait on the hook
Then when you caught a fish in the net
I could hardly bear to look
You'd see that I was squeamish
And thought to hurt it was a sin
So you'd take pity on the fish
And throw it straight back in
In my dreams you still read me stories
And we still play ball and fish
To see you once again, Daddy
That is my greatest wish
