A Chance Along the Way

After so many years—
aboard a roaring train,
its whistle breaking the silence of the wild.
You,
wrapped in a yellow sari edged with crimson,
a crimson bindi resting upon your brow.

Across the aisle,
two facing seats—
and between us,
an unfinished lifetime.

Outside,
the fading afternoon drifted
through emerald forests
and along the shoulders of distant hills.
As the train rushed
toward its destination,
every gaze surrendered
to the beauty beyond the window.
Mine,
without a single blink,
remained with you.

Not a word was spoken.
Dark clouds lingered
within your wounded eyes,
while every trace of restlessness
lay folded into silence.

Four quiet eyes
journeyed farther
than the speeding train—
into a world
where words were no longer needed.

At least,
we met again.
Our silence
said everything
our voices never could.
Even a burning silence
can be
a blessing.

When you walked away that final time,
your quiet resolve
was something
I failed to understand.
I mistook
the depth of love
for something
that could simply drift away.

When I awoke,
you were gone.
Only scattered memories remained,
and an ache
too vast for words.

Even now,
I hear its echo.
Your unseen presence
still lingers in the wind.
I find your laughter
within the waves,
your familiar touch
in the deepest corners
of memory.

Now,
you belong to my past,
while memory
has become my present.
Loneliness
has learned
the language of love
within every chamber
of my heart.

Yet I remain grateful
for that journey—
because it gave me
one last silent chance
to see you
before you became
a memory forever.
