A Bone To Pick With Looters

What a sad spectacle
seeing hordes of people
amid riots
breaking into
department stores
and destroying businesses
just to loot them.

Stop the looting!
Hands off the merchandise!
How is it justice
for George Floyd?
for Eric Garner?
for Michael Brown, Jr?
for Tamir Rice?
for Freddy Gray?
for any future Black victim
of police brutality?

What makes you
any different from those
you supposed to be
protesting against?
Stay home if you'd rather
loot stores than riot
peacefully.
Shame on you
for dishonoring
the memory of those
you should be
protesting for.

If you truly cared about
representing the families
of victims who died
at the hands of corrupt cops
you wouldn't be
showing up just to loot.
Shame on you
for trying to undo
the movement
for positive change.
If your intention
isn't to contribute
to that change, stay indoors.

By all means, protest
without breaking any laws.
But when you loot, you give
peaceful protesters
demanding justice
a bad name!
You are not helping!
Join the movement
for positive change, if not,
please, stay home!

Stop the looting!
Hands off the merchandise!
How is it justice
for George Floyd?
for Eric Garner?
for Michael Brown, Jr?
for Tamir Rice?
for Freddy Gray?
for any future Black victim
of police brutality?

Stop committing a crime
while railing against criminals
for crying out loud!

Edward, thank you for this poem that says what so many are feeling. The rioting and looting not only do a disservice to the peaceful protesters but to the memory of George Floyd. Thank you for sharing your poem on PS. The actions of the rioters and looters is beyond shameful!

You're welcome, Sam. I echo your sentiments! The sad thing is they KNOW they're doing a disservice to George Floyd's memory.*smh* Tsk tsk tsk.

So sad to see that Edward, to use the death of that poor man as an excuse to loot and destroy black and white businesses is shocking. They are not protesters, they are criminals and thugs. Tom

They're selfish opportunists indeed, Maureen. Their apathy is quite upsetting and disgusting, to be frank. I appreciate the visit, my friend!
