A Birthday Sonnet for My Wife
Another year unfolds beneath your smile,
Each day made brighter by your gentle way;
Your patient love has walked with me a while,
A guiding light that never fades nor strays.
In every sacrifice, your kindness shows,
A grace that time itself cannot outgrow;
You give your heart in ways the world scarcely knows,
And teach my own what faithful love can do.
As candles glow to mark this blessed year,
I thank the stars for all that you have been
My strength in doubt, my joy when life is clear,
My truest friend through loss, through hope, through sin.
If years must pass like seasons, swift and true,
Each one is sweeter, spent in love with you.
