A Birthday Present

A birthday present to yourself
Is perfect, which makes sense,
For it’s exactly what you want,
No matter the expense.

Your closest friends and family
May give a gift that’s cool.
But it will rarely be what you’d
Have chosen, as a rule.

So on your birthday, go ahead
And splurge in your own name.
If your purchase isn’t perfect,
You’ll have just yourself to blame.

I have always been like Kim Merryman's husband, from telling the wife to pick what she wants for a wedding ring and I'll pay for it, to where she wanted her ashes spread. Keep the wife happy! Aloha!

So well-written and the perfect advice. I think I'll take you up on it, Ilene. I mean, why shouldn't I?

Ilene, I've been doing that for years! My husband is terrible at picking gifts so he tells me to get what I want. I enjoyed your poem! Blessings, Kim M
