A Birds Tale
Have you ever heard of the bird that wouldn’t fly?
This gray bird would just sit atop a tree branch
and sing. The sounds were very sweet and delicate.
Other birds would stop and sit along the trees to listen.
Who is that strange bird they would ask? Wonder where it came from? The musical sounds have not been heard this part of the country. Perhaps he came from foreign lands.
That plain gray bird would sit and sing so many different songs and he just wouldn’t fly away. It seemed as
If he was waiting for someone or something. He often lower
his head to look at the house below as if waiting for something to happen.
Summer came and went but the plain gray bird continued to sing his magical songs. And when Nature turned to Winter,
cold winds and freezing snow covered the plain gray bird. Yet he continued to warble louder than before.
Shivering and cold the bird just sit and continued his tunes. All the other birds had left for other parts of the world to get away from the winter storms.
When Spring arrived at last, all the other birds returned. And once again they heard the plain gray bird’s songs.
A door opened from the house below the trees
and a little girl came out and stood on the porch.
She had been very very sick and the doctors couldn’t
help her. Every time she felt like giving up, she would hear that plain bird’s songs and she would listen to the magical sounds and her heart would beat stronger. At last she was cured from her illness.
The plain gray bird saw the little girl and flew down and landed on the porch rail. There It sang all his enchanting songs. You see, this little bird knew the girl was very sick and he wanted her to get well.
Seeing she was once again herself, it flew away to have others hear his healing music.
The tunes were from the mockingbird. If you are ever in your garden in the morning, listen and perhaps you will hear sounds from many birds. If you see a small gray bird singing, you can be sure its the mockingbird striving to please you with his melodious tunes.
End.
