A Biblical Stone

If I were a stone
About the size of a scone
I would fit in the palm of your hand
I’d be easily found
Anywhere on the ground
I’d be part of the greater plan

I’d be back in the Bible
When the people were tribal
And stoning the verdict du jour
When stones just like me
Would be flying free
When someone was guilty for sure

I would be the first stone
That His mother had thrown
That made Jesus turn back to the crowd
And say “he without sin –
Let the stoning begin,
But Mother, you’re not allowed”

7/31/11

This may offend some (a lot) of you but I got the last stanza in my head and had to go with it. It may not deliver the emotion expected in this contest but once the poem was in my head, I had to write it down.
