A Better Place To Hide

I race to my hiding space I think I am safe Eyes closed Mouth shut No sound Hide face One Mississippi, two Mississippi I make it to three...I win. This time I know I can beat him He will find me soon, he always does because I am the one he says he loves "Come out" he whispers "I know you are there" "Come out my love, there is nothing to fear" His voice, so warm His words, so familiar His wicked thought, "I will defeat her" My eyes... closed tight Chanting...don't breathe If he can't find me...I am free Three Mississippi I am almost home Peace Safety Alone "I found you" He smirks "Love always wins" Three Mississippi slipping away To be called on again Crawling out slowly As I have before Maybe next time there will be no more He looks me over Trying to read my mind Next time I will find a better place to hide
