A Better Place

Through the years
our journies take us into joy and sadness
in living the day to day experiences
 we thrive or we die,
smoldering in our loss of self, love, hope.

Words and the spoken rhetoric
cause our feelings and emotions to rise and fall
in expectation of some unseen satisfaction or dismay
of the things we tend to tolerate and cannot change
and therein lay the depths of what we want and who we truly are.

Go to a better place
that world that lives within us
deep in our minds, embedded in our hearts
 where we find us
born to be free of fear and hate.

All of mankind should be free
 living in that place
where freedom and equality are more than words
and the everyman and every woman
speak the truths that America is a better place.

The political asylum
 is not us
we are better than that
 living in truth, justice and
the American way.
