7 Dollars
7 dollars is the price you said
I would never pay so much
for a packet of snacks
so I left the store and stood on the sidewalk
I used to walk around
before the nights get so dark
but it was afternoon and the rain washed the world
you left the store smiling in that deluge
ran funny to take shelter under the marquee
I shouldn't have said what I said
I should never have offered the umbrella
the foolish things a man does
we love each other urgently
almost nothing we built
a restless son
a sad little dog
you left us after the fever and crying
but we are always visiting you
the boy runs over the tomb
knock down the vases
the plastic roses are getting ugly
did you know that when he sleeps he looks like you?
