386 We Are Called Man
And the moon lights fire through the sky
Yet the Earth burns only with desire
Freedom is the rage within the heart
Though freedom is the sacrifice we graze upon
The intentional delusion to define
The purpose for which we live.
~
And the sun blinds our eyes with fear
As we wilt under the cushion of oppression
Watching as the wind blows freely,
Gently swaying the branches we see
While wisdom is held tightly
In the grasps of a stronger thumb.
~
And the tears flow forth into a river of blood
Man has become the enemy of all things free
As the tears of the beasts are spilled for space
Who are we to take ownership of life?
While watching the fallen tree
Bleed hopeless into despair.
~
And the cities wait anxious towards tomorrow
When life will have become a memory
Or an artifact of what used to be
The clouds come to darken what is already blinded
And the thunder sounds to shame our being
As the Earth opens to swallow what we have become
Who are we to take ownership of life?
Who are we to rule over a free world?
We are called Man.
