3:36 Am Night Traveler
I watched the stars leave one by one
at the advance of the first light of the sun.
I reflected on how determined we are
to keep the light of day over all.
Did we go wrong when we abandoned
the night watch and left it to a few experts?
From that long ago date we began
to lose our mystics and mysteries.
Those that said we are not all, that
there are night travelers and unknowns.
Some can be made clear in the strong light
of the day, but many more can not.
We convince ourselves that all
can be explained, or could be,
by wrapping ourselves in daylight.
Under the stars and the night travelers
we are truly naked with much to learn.
