1st CORINTHIANS 13:13
In this passage of Scripture, we are reminded that of the three items mentioned, the greatest of these is love. Love, in some translations, is referred to as charity. In my opinion, charity and love are not truly the same, but for the sake of adherence to the sponsors choice, I will use the term. However, I believe charity to be giving help to the needy person's of life while love is a bond between mother and child or perhaps husband and wife. Having said this, I also believe that just as is stated in Hebrews 11:1, 'Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.' It goes on to say that, 'By faith, we understand that the world was framed by the Word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.' In chapter 11, the entire chapter is devoted to the term and faith is counted to a number of people who had great faith in God. While verse 1 of chapter 11 is not a definition of faith, but a description of what faith does. For instance, the word 'substance' means "essence" or "reality". Faith treats 'things hoped for' as reality. 'Evidence' means 'proof' or conviction'. Faith itself proves that what is unseen is real, such as the believer's rewards at the return of Christ as evidenced in 2 Corinthians 4:18. Faith enables us to come to God as it is spelled out in Hebrews 11:6. Love, on the other hand enables us to imitate Him. So then, LOVE, or CHARITY, if you prefer, is the greater of the three, but only if you put it into practice.
