if you asked me to describe how i fell in love with you,
i don’t think i could give you a concrete answer

the truth is, i don’t have one,
because it didn’t hit me on sight, didn’t strike me like a meteor no one saw coming

i fell in love with you like honey in the summertime,
like walking on a long stretch of road with no end in sight

i fell in love with you the way my sister learned how to ride a bike;
with lots of bruises, lots of picking myself up, but feeling like it was worth it in the end

falling in love with you, didn’t feel like falling;
it felt like standing up after getting hit hard and dusting myself off,
like understanding why some people are named after flowers,
like watching you bloom

so no, i can’t pinpoint the time and place i fell in love with you
but i can tell you exactly how it felt
when i did
