Glad Oaks
Once a peaceful quiet land, it's really more than I can stand. They took the animals from the ark, all to turn their homes into an industrial park! They shoved down trees and yanked out bushes, they killed the grass and all the brushes. They ran out foxes and scared away squirrels, and knocked down nests of the cheerful whippoorwills. This didn't bother town board, oh no indeed. Especially not Mayor Allen Mcsneed. He's the one suggested that the forest be "detreed". The townsfolk didn't notice, the first couple months. Just "quiet and peaceful" like it should, with no droppings on the peoples' car hoods. Then one day, 'Ol Joe Hudson marched up to town hall, "I miss the squirrels and the whippoorwills' call!" He started a petition, and walked thru town, "Join my expotition!" He'd call out up and down. People joined in, all on their own, even held meetings in each others' home. "Stop the industrial park!" they'd cry, "Save the animals before they die!" Mayor Mcsneed didn't like this at all, he planned to have the park completed this fall. "Alright," he said, tired of people in his face "let's me an' 'Ol Joe do a foot race." So it was decided, 'Ol Joe and Mcsneed, neither one excited. It was like this, Joe won, the forest stayed, Mcsneed won, it was their bad day. The race was square, it "Started right 'ere an' ended right there" The race was run, thankfully, 'Ol Joe won. After the race 'Ol Joe spoke, and such is the story of that forest, "Glad Oaks".
