Robert Lloyd Sherriff - Australian Poet - Mr Black
Robert Lloyd Sherriff - Australian Poet, Author, Actor, and Model: American Historian. Robert Lloyd Sherriff - Australian Poet (Born: 8th July 1954) Mirror Time Does Not Wait For Anyone, Rich or Poor One day nearer to the life’s journey’s end for the babe born yesterday, Since time does not wait for anyone, as some do like to say. The opening lines set the tone, emphasising the inevitable passage of time. The imagery of a newborn babe juxtaposed with the relentless march of time creates a sense of urgency. It does not wait for anyone; it did not wait for me, In time, the longest-lived human life is not long; that’s how it would seem. The repetition of “it does not wait” reinforces the central message. Time is impartial; it treats everyone equally. The brevity of life, even for the longest-lived among us, is a sobering truth. Like every other form of life, we humans are born to die. That is a fact, and it is true; that fact does never lie. Here, the universality of mortality is acknowledged. Humans, like all living beings, share this common fate. The unyielding truth of mortality is presented starkly. The old fellow who lives next door has just turned eighty-three, He says my best years are long gone; time has caught up. The neighbour's perspective adds depth. The speaker’s realisation that time has caught up with them resonates. The passage of years is palpable, leaving its mark on both body and spirit. It does not seem that long ago, when I was young and fit and strong, When I could dance for hours on end and drink beer all night long. The contrast between youthful vigour and the present reality is vivid. Memories of carefree days evoke nostalgia, emphasising the fleeting nature of time. The generational shift continues. The son’s greying hair symbolizes the passage of time, and their shared ageing experience connects them. No matter what we achieve in life, death does become our due. And that time does not wait for anyone; so happens to be true.
