Neville Goddard - My Critical Responses
I advocate Bible-Reading (for other Faiths, other Scripture), Prayer, and Outreach to Creation (or the macrocosm). All three will help us live responsibly, fruitfully, and at Peace (versus peacefully). But why do I have reservations about Neville Goddard saying that God and Man are one as Jesus was "Son of Man" ? It is because if we equate ourselves with the "power and Wisdom of God," as Neville Goddard does, then we will not live and act responsibly and fruitfully in our larger environment. If self-affirmations, Self, and positive thinking are taken to their conclusions (logical or otherwise), we will neither pray, nor obey international laws. We will become a law and authority ourselves. Goddard did assert in one YouTube video, "you need not pray to someone external to your Self/ yourself." Do you see the danger? What if we all asserted that and applied it to everyday life and struggles? Paul needs to be the example we know from early Christianity. He said he could do "all things through Christ who strengthens me," at the same time as he repented for being "chief among sinners," who had persecuted Christians when he was still an observant and nationalistic Jew. Goddard also asserts, "Man is the Ark of God" that contains in himself all creative ability. Analogies are used to explicate, not complicate; moreover, analogies are never to be mistaken for the thing being explained, especially God, or the Source/ First Cause.
