Enthusiasm, the Game Changer
Do you think it? Do you sleep it? Do you believe it? Would you buy it? Would you wear it? Would you eat it, drink it? As Nike would ask, "Is it in you? Does it permeate and saturate you? Is it felt in the deepest parts of your being? If you answered "Yes!" to at least three of the questions, I'd say that you've got 'enthusiasm'. If you answered "No", I suggest that you try something that's more suitable to what inspires you. I will always remember Lee Iococa who once was the head of the Chrysler Corporation when it nearly went out of business. Mr. Iococa ran ads in which he said, "If you can find a better deal, take it. If you can find a better car, buy it". I'd say Mr Iococa was both enthusiastic and passionate about his products. So much so that America bought it and turned the company around. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------What is the root word of enthusiasm? The word enthusiasm indicates intense excitement. The noun enthusiasm comes from the Greek word enthousiasmos, from enthous, meaning “possessed by a god, inspired.” It was originally used in a derogatory sense to describe excessive religious zeal. Is passion and enthusiasm the same? Enthusiasm is when you're excited about something at first and then you slowly lose interest. ... You can be enthusiastic about anything, but once you find something that you're good at and can't stop doing, that's passion.* ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Many years ago, I read a book by Norman Vincent Peale entiled, Enthusiasm Makes The Difference. Indeed, enthsiasm makes a difference provided that one finds things to be really 'enthused' about. As far back as I can recall, there was always one thing that excited me more than anything else. That one thing was indeed an absorbing and controlling possession of my mind in my teen years. At the same time, I was basically an introvert by personality, very quiet, very shy, and withdrawn. However, when the subject or the game of baseball entered my environment, my entire persona changed. 061720PSCtest, Enthusiasm, Karen Krutsinger * Oxford Languages
