Hudibrastic describes verse written in the satirical, mock-heroic manner of Samuel Butler's Hudibras. It usually uses short rhyming couplets, often with deliberately awkward or surprising rhymes, to create a comic or mocking effect.
Writers use hudibrastic verse for parody, irony, and ridicule, especially when a grand style is used to deflate a foolish subject.
