What Happened To Us

We only began to know what could be
And already it seems things must end
Time changes people even you and me

I guess there never really existed a we
Strangers now before you were a friend
We only began to know what could be

In the end once again it's only I you see
No more thoughts of hope will I send
Time changes people even you and me

Every day this world loses more glee
Everything breaking nothing will mend
We only began to know what could be

I am a boat and loneliness is my sea
I can't keep sailing against the wind
Time changes people even you and me

What will be in my final fading decree
I try to break the wall but you don't bend
We only began to know what could be
Time changes people even you and me

Fine writing, Wayland. Villanelle are a favorite for me. I enjoy writing them and use the form fairly often. This is your first poem I have read. Keep up the good stuff!

I almost only use the villanelle. It's repetitive but I find power in that. At first I thought it would be hard but really like the form. Also quatern and a couple of others but absolutely love the villanelle. Thanks for your comment sorry I'm barely replying.
