Space Odyssey

In smoke and flames of mighty Apollo
  T-minus fifteen seconds, engines on!
O’ ship of divine distance I saw go
when rocketeers on lunar ascent shone.
New Age Columbus kings voyage and realm
in your Saturn V rocket to the moon -
new worlds beyond and Earth men at the helm
when supersonic roared its sonic boom.
I saw the face of Jupiter and Mars,
saw a golden eagle fly through deep space
and saw Prometheus reach for the stars
with flag and footprint of the human race.
Saw you fall to Earth out that Milky Way
on re-entry splashdown on the eighth day.

Your "Space Odyssey" is a wonderful write with a great picture. I do not like long flights so I would not like space travel. I will stay with the MilkyWay candy bar. Hahaha!!! Have a great/fun day writing away................

Smart choice, Paula. Flying in a tin can filled with tanks of rocket fuel and rocket flames ain’t my idea of fun and adventure. Cheers.

An interesting, documentation of space adventure. I'm happy that there are volunteers. I'll stay here, thank you.

I’m with you, Hilda. The stars and planets are beautiful from the Earth. I won’t be tripping across the Milky Way anytime soon with Elon or Branson or Bezos. The money that is spent on space travel and colonisation could feed and house the world. This planet needs their resources more.

I love the title and the poem. Awesome poetic account of man's venture to the moon. Will they make Mars? From what I'm reading of late seems unlikely. Maybe after the thousand years of restoration are over and God's rest day is complete we may be permitted to venture beyond. Patience, patience

If they can get to Vulcan in around stardate 2265 I think Mars will be a breeze. Won’t need rockets, just a transporter machine and a grumpy Scottish engineer. Then there’s time travel - you’re living proof of that.
