Contemplating Christmas Eve

The gifts are wrapped and ‘neath the tree
in brightly colored bags and bows.
I now sit back, my mind set free
to contemplate these thoughts I chose
and share this verse I now compose.

‘Tis quiet on this Christmas Eve;
a soothing peace now fills the air
with calming grace as I perceive
this moment meant for all to share
and bless it with a silent prayer.

And yet not all this time enjoy
for somewhere in the darkness roam
forgotten souls devoid of joy
who scrounge for food in constant moan
upon the street they call their home.

It’s right that we should show our love
and buy fine gifts for those held dear;
but don’t get lost in thoughts thereof
forgetting those who’re not so near
and close your ears their cries to hear.

A powerful poem, conveying mixed emotions at a time when it is sometimes easy to forget about those who see Christmas as a strong reminder of what or who they do not have. Thanks for sharing

Sitting all alone except for the lights on the tree was one of my favorite things to do. I reflected on all that I’d been blessed with having and prayed for those who needed so much. Enjoy your holidays, John.

We count our blessings John while we gather round the Christmas the table many are facing conflict and wars, the homeless and the starving living day to day. We can only but pray for them. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and that the new year brings you good health and happiness. Tom

With all our blessings it is so easy to take things for granted, I know I am guilty of this. We must always keep in mind the less fortunate, and do what we can. Many blessings to you and your family this Christmas, Tom. John

I agree, it is a time to become aware of those around us who don't share the richness we do, God favors them most of all and the Angels sit at their side, I buy coffees for strangers sporadically every xmas, this year I chose a construction worker, a very young man, who was cold, and a young girl who was paying for her own tuition, not much but I saw them, Merry Christmas dear heart, :)
