California Dreaming

                          California Dreaming

Her memories like the softest, velvet clouds, gliding swiftly, were being
Dried from their moistness.

How grateful she was to follow.her dreams to California, freed from their
cold, and most unhelpul voices.

It took her some time to let go of old friends and warm, familiar faces,
And she knew it was her soul’s relentless, choices.

On the airplane, tears fell as the plane ascended, and she realized, heading
into the sunset, the strength of her own inner voices.

This is beautiful. I was just listening to the song 'California Dreamin' a few days ago as I was reminiscing of when I lived there as a child near the San Francisco Bay in the 1960's. I could almost see it again as I read your poem. This is a beautiful portrait of resolve and strength as you entered through the golden gate of your life. You brought so much vivid imagery in your poem, I can almost see you on the flight west. This is a fave for me. I love it so much.

I lived in Milpitas off the San Francisco Bay, and attended there from 1964-1968, it was a wonderful school. I loved my teachers and going on field trips into the city of San Francisco, it was beautiful, vibrant and so alive. I remember that my big sister and I wanted to be 'Flower Children' ...until we actually got to see some of them on a school trip to Golden Gate Park. I never knew men to have such long hair. We children screamed when we saw the back of a girl with beautiful long golden blond hair to her waist...so we thought, until she turned to look at us and had a long full beard, it was a young man! Our teachers were really nervous; the city was beginning to change I suppose then. That was probably around 1967. What a funny memory. I went to Alexander Rose School :)

Hi Bj! Bless you for the fave, hugs, plus! Thank you for writing such a moving comment. We both luved in SF in thevsame time period, I will never get over my love of San Francisco., even though I think it’s a creepy place now. I’m talking about crime.. But it sure was beautiful. The smell of coffee beans in the morning.. an amazing city. Like a precious flower, I raised my daughter in the city. I thought school kind of fun. It was wonderful. No town can compare to those years and my experiences and yours. I even was married therein SF, Happy cable car memories and Tony Bennett’s song. Gives me goose bumps. where did you go to school? I might’ve been your teacher.)).

Paula! I remember being in a German soccer club on New Year’s Eve and made decision to go to San Francisco. Everyone laughed at me.. I love when people do that.. that puts the fire in my belly. I didn’t leave right away. It took me three years to get my stuff together and get out.. but boy was I glad to get out of Chicago. No snow since the 60’s, Huzzah! Pangie thank you

Hi Darlene and thank you for the Fav! She was way stronger than she ever thought! But even if a man or woman cannot travel, they can create miracles in their life by stop doing the same thing over and over and over again. One has to step out of their comfort zone.. including in poetry. We are all greater than we think we are.))) thank you Darlene..Pangie
