Notes About The Poem

For Nette Onclaud's Oxymoron Poetry Contest/ Sept. 2, 2025

Alone In A Crowd

Around him is a multitude
of people who appear to be
with partners, friends or family.
Excited smiles display their mood.
He drifts along, solitary.
Among that throng, a ghost is he
whose dead wife’s face he can’t unsee.
Forlornness he cannot bury.

An awful lot of people would see themselves in this poem, Andrea. I suspect, few of those happy smiling people would even notice the somber guy passing by. A sad but very real observation. ‘Enjoyed’. Terry

Glad you like it. It has nothing to do with myself though. Just putting myself in others' shoes

You choose a unique, out of the box approach, at least to me because I didn't think of lonely as in partner had died. I'm sure she'll like this. Love ... CayCay

It is difficult to forget someone you really loved.

Well, when someone you love, deeply, soulfully, a combining of spirits...passes away...the best of you can die with them. Death by proxy. This one hit home. Any spark, to a dead heart, is welcomed. A needed reminder of still a degree of life. What makes us endearingly human...can also, to an outsider, seem pitifully weak.
