A Piece of Cake

Johnny's parents owned a bakery, selling cakes and yummy confections. Though only nine-years-old, Johnny showed interest, asking questions. He was soon making tasty cookies, to the glee of his baby sister, Anna. For parents are the best teachers, like golden days, leaving in glamour. Johnny's parents decided to offer, some of his buttery cookies for sale; For he had put care in each detail! They were soon popular in Hillsdale! Flabbergasted thunder finally finished roaring. Butterscotch sun smiled, As Johnny and friends went to the fair, when red flowers were going wild! Fanciful fairies frolicked on fruity flowers, as distant family came closer, In final moments of moonlight fame, when dreamers know it's all over. Johnny lived in the house of aromas, permeating sunny noon and night, While drifting from the bakery below, in crazy summers, of pink starlight. Sulky sundown saw scarlet shadows, on the subdued street of seasons; Wind and weeping willow did a classical dance, blooms bowing in legions. Normalcy was evident in nacre moon, when blackbird swung on a twig; While nearest, dearest neighbors called, traversing pretty, firefly traffic. 'Blue thumb' irises were hitchhiking, beside backroads, where they grew; And purple moonflowers wore pearls, on satin nights, of lacy clouds, few. Pink 'rain lilies' adored summer soaking, as 'rose lilies' had identity crisis; And frilly 'dancing lady' orchids waltzed away, in golden gowns, priceless. It was a busy time in the bakery, and baby Anna's birthday was nearing. Johnny begged to bake Anna's cake, like the robin's song, within hearing. Happily, Johnny was granted permission. Then he got off to a great start. His parents were proud of their 'little man,' like dark, prides a red spark! But, alas, Johnny forgot to add baking soda, and the elaborate cake fell! Johnny was upset, but his parents said, 'Try again. Errors have lots to tell.' His parents' words were so true! Johnny never forgot another ingredient; And followed in their footsteps, as pearl moon, follows plum sun, recent. Anna's birthday cake created memorable moments, lovely and delicious! And her day was filled with smiles, like caress of warm breeze, capricious. 'Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man. Bake me a cake as fast as you can, Pat it and prick it and mark it with B, And bake it in the oven for baby and me. Patty cake, patty cake, baker's man. Bake me a cake as fast as you can, Pat it and prick it and mark it with B, And bake it in the oven for baby and me.'
