The Refrigerator

In the heart of a metropolis, an old four story-house stands and is partly hidden by so many trees around. Outside the house is an old lamp post. The house has fifteen rooms occupied by students and teachers as boarders -- all females. A small separate room underneath the staircase leading to the kitchen is being occupied for two days by the female caretaker of the house during her yearly visit. For many years, many young boarders have graduated in a nearby university with the help of the old house, catering for the less-privileged who can't afford high cost housing. Every year, however, somebody vanishes inside the said old house. And more boarders disappear during the leap year. Nobody can tell why and how it happens. For many times, the female caretaker of the house has been suspected of abduction, but not a single proof or evidence was presented. The caretaker is friendly and soft-hearted to all its boarders, serving the owner of the old house for over thirty years. At night, with or without the lights on in the kitchen, an old refrigerator is being opened by boarders, taking out their food and drinks. The old refrigerator is faded, but in perfect condition. One full moon, one boarder from the third floor of the house went to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator. She took out her burger and fries that she's been keeping there for two days. While seated and eating, she heard a soft strange noise. It sounded like a child's voice, murmuring. Her seat is not facing the refrigerator because the refrigerator is behind a wooden wall where the hanging dining table is attached. She knocked at the wooden wall covering the refrigerator, believing there's a boarder opening the refrigerator. No response. After eating her food, the voice sounded again... like an echo blown by the wind. The boarder stood up and checked out who's behind the wooden wall... nobody. She looked around and checked each door and window, but all are closed. She saw the lamp post outside the window facing the kitchen, flickering. When she turned around, she noticed that the refrigerator is slightly open. She just closed it and went upstairs to rest. The following night, a new female boarder from the second floor experienced the same thing. She told her other roommates and asked them if they heard or felt something odd in the kitchen any time of the day. She heard only two answers: "none" and "nothing." One late night a week later, a different boarder from the fourth floor is listening to rock music on her earphones. She went to the kitchen and took out her chocolate bar from the refrigerator. Dancing with the music beside the refrigerator, she sensed something strange about the refrigerator. It's shaking... the boarder looked at the hanging chandelier in the ceiling, believing there's an earthquake happening that very moment. But it's not moving. The refrigerator suddenly opened by itself and the boarder was suctioned. Nobody else was around when the boarder disappeared. The mystery is in the old refrigerator. More boarders disappeared in the succeeding years. The mystery continues...
