The Missing Ruby

In the middle of the old city of Al-Zaha Rah there lived a middle-aged lady named, Mishima. She lived all by herself in a run-down house. Her only, most precious possession was a ruby which was given to her as an ancestral possession by her grandmother. Mishima’s grandmother had told her that the ruby was a lucky charm. She would admire it and brush it every day. On one hot, sunny day Mishima decided to look for some work to earn money as she used up all her savings. She carried her ruby for good luck. Shakir Nasrin, a very rich man hired her as his cleaner. So, the very next day she set off to his house and cleaned up all the rooms in the house. At exactly 6:00 pm, Shakir Nasrin arrived and informed Mishima she was no longer going to work there because he was going to shift to Egypt immediately due to some unexpected issues in his business in Egypt. Mishima left the house, almost in tears. ‘Maybe this ruby wasn’t a lucky charm after all’ she thought and pulled out her ruby from her pocket. But suddenly she stopped and realized that her beautiful ruby was missing! Mishima started running all the way to Shakir Nasrin’s house as the people on the street gave her a curious stare. Mishima reached Shakir’s house just as he was heading off to the ship. “Shakir Nasrin! I am very sorry but I have left my ruby in your house and I must get it back,” she said. Shakir then let her check his house for the ruby but it was to no avail. So, after forcing Shakir to give her a few minutes more she rushed to call the policemen. They came and inspected Shakir’s house but couldn’t find any ruby. Shakir apologized and hurried to catch the ship. Mishima nodded sadly and turned to head back home. She cried as she entered her house and missed her precious ruby. She was preparing her rotten dinner, when there was a knock on the door. Mishima opened the door to an old lady who enquired about her grandmother and she narrated how Mishima’s grandmother helped their family when they were in poverty and how they are well off now with jewelry shops around the middle east. Mishima was glad to hear and opened her heart to the old lady about her situation. The old lady sympathized with her and requested to see her grandmothers’ picture. Mishima quickly checked her purse for the picture that she treasured and to her amazement there lied the ruby along with the picture. She cried out in joy and took off the picture and the ruby and showed it to the old lady. And they both hugged in joy. The old lady promised her to help her to start a jewelry shop in Al-Zaha Rah to which Mishima jumped up in joy and said indeed the ruby was a lucky charm.
