The Creative Writer

Sitting in her assigned American English Literature seat which was a comfort zone filled with positive energy. Visions were conjured up before transposing them into a notebook making daydreaming a worthwhile experience. Listening to historical facts about some one’s imagination whose ideas played out in another century the education fascinated the student who wanted to catch the author bug. Preparing for a life surrounded by black and white typed words on pages bounded together called a book, Karen was fully aware, the powerful lure interpretation had on society.

Ever since childhood the teenager developed dramatic scenes where the underdog protagonist was able to make the favorite antagonist release emotions then drop their guard creating a thoughtful resolution for the reader. Using a digital diary website, the sophomore in high school would scribble thoughts and insert a fictional plot that was entertaining to a one-person internet audience when they visited.

What tale was going to be unleashed tonight?” Karen asked herself when the bell sounded.

Do not forget to read chapters 14 to 16 by Monday,” Mrs. Robinson exclaimed a reminder about the important thing that was due.

With a three-ring binder and textbook protecting her heart Karen felt strong ready to combat the time off by venturing anywhere using a keyboard.

So, Karen are you going home to make things up?” Inquired Trish, a performing artist from the theatrics department. Turning around and thinking, “to tell the truth I will have more romance than you will.”

Finding the locker was routine and already knowing the combination that exposed the harbored secret thoughts brought a confident vibe since on its metal shelf was the magical disk drive. Turning the dial right then left and back before the security device unhooked the area where the talented writings were stashed.

Grabbing the Zip Lock bag, it took a moment for Karen to decide which one to take home.

Karen,” shouted from nowhere, “do not listen to Trish you are going to be a literary giant of the twenty first century.”

Seeing that it was Gary her faced turn red, “you think so?” A defense mechanism question was asked.

I know so,” the mature upperclassman replied, “I was just wondering if I could give you a ride?”

Taking a step back Karen kept her composure and accepted the offer without a flinch and while closing the door several USB devices found a home in her pocket.

Returning to school a few days later Trish was searching for suggestions on Monday morning when she asked if anyone had seen Gary.

Approaching Karen quietly securing the USB devices into their plastic bag home inside the private cave Trish’s attention changed from where Gary was, to if Karen had a nice two-day holiday.

Did you find any inspiration this weekend?”

Actually, I wrote a romantic murder mystery,”

Trish backed off for a second, “maybe I could read it.”

Sure anytime,” Karen responded.

And on cue across the hallway a voice blasted, “I loved the climax on Friday night.”

Thanks Gary,” the creative writer returned volley enjoying Trish emotionally crumble in front of her hearing the social reality, “it was man versus himself conflict that ended up as a tragedy. Trish you will love it.”
