Refusing to Face the Reality

Most people, say, 99.9 percent of the people, have no need of real truth. By real truth, I mean transcendental truth, or a truth that may be inconvenient for you but deserves to be called the universal truth.

If God really does exist, and if there is objective evidence that He does, then the existence of God is the real truth, or the objective truth. If God does not exist but the Devil does, and if the Devil has created this world of ours as a stinking pigsty, an eternally meaningless void that does nothing but make us dispair, then the existence of the Devil is the objective, real truth. So is the meaninglessness of the universe.
If the one you happen to love really does love you, and if there is objective, even scientific evidence that they really do love you, and if that love of theirs for you is clearly defined and beyond doubt, then that love is a truth.

If, however, there is no such thing as love and no one is capable of love, and if the only reality that exists is that people are just possessed with their illusion of love, misled into the thought that love really is real and they are really capable of their love and that they really love one another, then the objective, transcendental truth is that love is impossible, that no one really does love, and has never loved anybody. The real truth that remains after that is that we humans are like machines, programmed to indulge in their illusion of love, intoxicated with that insignificant illusion of that thing which bears the beautiful name of love.

Most people, however, do not want such truths. Some 99.9 percent of the people have never had the slightest doubt that what is convenient to them, what feels right to them, what pleases them is a truth. Anything that they do not like must be untrue. That is what they believe.

These people, therefore, are happy, never being bothered by any hint that what they have believed all their lives might be a complete falsehood. They believe that they love their loved ones, and that those loved ones love them in return. Whenever they find anyone who they do not like, they have no doubt that those whom they hate are evil. They do not bother even a spit second to stop and think that there might be some truth in whatever those hated ones might be saying.

It is precisely that way that misery persists. War never ends. Prejudice dies hard. Whenever any fact that may prove the righteousness of their hated ones comes available to them, they never bother to pick up the fact and examine it. They just indulge in their continued ignorance.

That is okay, my friends. You guys can live your happy lives until death do you part. I will never bother you, trying to convince you that you may be wrong. In fact, you *are* right. You are absolutely right in that you are a majority, forming 99.9 percent of humankind.

You can produce offspring, who will hopefully be as insensitive to transcendent truths as you are and will live happily ever after with you. If any one of your children, grandchildren, relatives, colleagues, or friends turns out to be different from you, I am positive that you will quite conveniently mislead yourselves into your usual belief that whatever does not please you must be false. You will therefore never hesitate to believe that you can *correct* that particular member of your community by your good, loving instruction. Should you fail to correct them, you can very conveniently again just go on to pretend that they do not exist any longer. Bravo! Long live humankind! And may God damn me!
