Dark Space
I have to go all the way to… the back?? At night?!?
Living in a house that has a huge amount of space I'm pretty used to all of that space no matter where I move around. Aside from all the clutter of stuff and so much furniture placed in tight spots, I often have trouble keeping myself from hitting something. This is especially true if I’m wandering around blind in the dark! Some rooms are perfect for getting pitch black like the night in the forest, or a drive in the late hours of a very dark road.
The darkness is an especially powerful foe when it is right in your own home. Anything around you can become a monster, turned into a creature, from the imagination of your mind going wild! Any noise that isn’t even loud, or so much as a high shriek from a mosquito in all the silence can make you slap something when you turn around from that jump scare. Any sense of awareness is pushed back onto you, gripping your heart.
And any familiarity becomes unfamiliar as the only thing you recognize is the smell of the machines hidden in the darkness. With their soft humming, It’s the only comfort that can last for so long until the thoughts of horror start coming in. Picture this: It is one hour till midnight and you forgot to do something in the back yard. that you have to go, AGAIN, to the back yard, with only a few bits of light hanging on the wooden fence.
The moment you open the door, it is so DARK you could almost see nothing!! And you should know that any and every house has at least a tinge of light in all that contrast.
You step back and mutter “Nope, too dark.” It’s the honest answer seeing as the way you viewed the darkness was like going into an empty void. Bravery is not an excuse to be careless, even in your own home. If you’re not afraid of the dark then you will be afraid of the movements, the objects, and the trickery your eyes will play on you.
Even the sound of the wind or the falling of gentle rain will never be enough to ease you of the feeling of something coming to get you! when that ‘something’ is so miniscule you will feel so… embarrassed. When it crawls into your line of sight and you hear it clearly.
‘All that noise from a roach…’ yes, a roach. That was the crumbling noise that was coming from all the supplies and the protective covers. Now, watch it fly straight to you!!
“Holy crap!!” did that scare you?? they scare anyone! Except those who eat them. that is the only source of horror that stops you dead in your tracks. The only rescue team that eats them only walks out during the day so your only way of getting back inside, safe and sound, is to slowly inch your way out of the space. Then close the shed door and power walk to the house! Whew. Once more, the scariest places can be the simplest, and safest.
Love the darkness but be wary, imagination in this month is so very scary!!
