A Prayer of Thanksgiving

by

In the first few months of our marriage I was learning to be submissive to my husband in different areas of my life. He had been married before and had lost his wife to diabetes. It was extremely hard on him for the first two years.

After a few months of being married we moved into his previous home they owned. I realized it would be a hard transition for him by letting go of certain things and I understood there were still lots of wonderful memories he still wanted to hang on to.

She and I had different tastes with decor and furnishings. I wanted to change a few things at first but I had a lot to learn. I wanted to get a new couch among other things but we weren't in a financial position where we could just go out and buy what we wanted. My husband said, let's wait.

I got the idea that I could go out and buy a couch cover and cover it up. He didn't really like the idea of covering it up. I said, okay Lord, I want to please my husband and I thanked the Lord for the way things were. I eventually forgot about the incident. I had no idea what God was going to allow next in our lives that would change our whole situation.

We went on a visit to his mom's for a couple of days. We enjoyed the scenery and the beauty of the flat lands on the way home.

We pulled up to the house and we could not believe what we were seeing. In disbelief we drove around the block and then just sat there in front of our house looking at it. It had been all boarded up. How could this of happened? In a state of shock we pulled into the driveway and couldn't believe our eyes.

About that time our neighbor next door came over and filled us in. He said, someone had ran into our house with a one ton truck. It came from on top of the hill down through our yard, past the tree and right smack dab into the living room window. Our neighbor had been kind enough to stay at our house before they came to board it up so, no one would vandalize it.

After getting over our disbelief, our shock of hearing the story, we couldn't believe it was true. Although our response was all together different in the situation than I could have ever imagined. We were calm about it and thought to ourselves God must have a plan. At a different time in our lives our reaction would be to sizzle with anger. It's amazing how God takes one's life and can mold it like the clay on the spindle.

We entered into the house, there was glass everywhere. His grandmothers library table was turned upside down. We went into the master bedroom and the door trap had bounced off the hallway ceiling onto our bedroom floor. I could just imagine the impact it had on the house. You must be wondering how could something like this turn into something good?

The next day our insurance man had men working on putting everything back together. They cleaned up all the debris and replaced the window in one day. Things moved along and in time there was the fun of shopping for new items. Paint for the living room, new curtains, a new living room rug. They redid his grandmothers library table and brought back all it's lustrous beauty, last but not least a beautiful new couch. I couldn't believe the way the Lord had answered my prayer of thanksgiving.
