The Clubs, the MLBPA and the IBAF all realize that the goal of the tournament -- to grow the game and to increase interest in the sport worldwide -- is in the long-term best interests of the game.

After thoughtful deliberations with my family, I am announcing my decision to withdraw from the World Baseball Classic. When faced with the decision to choose between my country, the United States of America, and my Dominican heritage, I decided I will not dishonor either.
