Barbara Peckham Biography

I am a New Englander through and through, having lived around Boston as a child, later moving to Connecticut, where I lived until I married. After my husband Douglas returned from Korea, we moved to Troy, NY, and, later, to Syracuse, NY. In 2001 we moved to Martha’s Vineyard, where we had had a summer place for many years

I attended Vassar College and when my children were small, I was graduated from Syracuse University.

Early on, I was Society and Woman’s Page Editor for the New Haven, CT, Journal-Courier and later worked for a public radio station and an advertising agency in Albany, NY, writing radio and television commercials. I also taught school in Marcellus, NY, for many years and received a Teacher of the Year Award. Since the death of my husband I have been living in Omaha, NE, near my daughter. I have one daughter, Jennifer Mattea, and two sons, Douglas, Jr., and Jonathan, and I have eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren,

While living on the Vineyard I was very active in the Pathways Project for the Arts and other writing groups and have published two poetry books, “A Jar of Summer” and “Sing Spring”. Forgotten But Not Gone, my first novel, was also recently published. All are on Amazon and other book outlets.

I'll be moving to live with my daughter here in Omaha Jan. 31.

Warm welcome Barbara. Looking forward to reading your poems. At 92 many stop working and merely wait for death to come. You are an inspiration to me.
