Feel the Urge

        Poems are a great way to express yourself so if you want to convey your deepest thoughts and feelings to others I urge people to stop writing about the heart, the sun and light and love with simple words and common points of view. You can punch words into a computer but if the readers phase out they really don't read, they glaze over to write something nice and totally impersonal to you. By then does a poem mean anything, have
you reached anyone?
        You are good poets with promise out there I know it. Try to write something personal
from your experiences in life. Use words of your culture that people might have to look up. Don't be afraid to write longer poems either covering more than one point of view. These will all make things more interesting and you won't drown in the cesspool of banal and hackneyed poetry, you can show how special you are.
        Expanding a good vocabulary to great will get specific thoughts and feelings across to the reader too. Pick your words carefully and try different forms of poetry. Never stop learning. The poet that thinks he has learned everything is a dead poet writing dead poetry no one cares about, and past its prime. Take yourselves more seriously and believe you can write better. Even if you just write casually for fun, doing these things will be more fun.
