Started a project this year to follow each game the Yankees play and summarize it in verse.
When the season is complete will collate all into a single epic format chaptered by months and weeks. Thought it would be a little bit different take on my favorite sport.
Thought I'd start to share here in a daily blog.. so I'll start with yesterdays game and continue as the season goes on...
12th June (W 5-3 @ Angels)
First time playing in his home state
The Judge struck out twice at the plate
His folks in the stands to see him play
A 2-run homer in eighth made their day
It wasn’t the longest but was all they would need
To break up the tie and retake the lead
Tanaka pitched well and Betances he k’d three
Didi’s four for four and the Yanks win five to three
13th June (L 3-2 @ Angels)
Streaks at stake today are the theme
Gregorius hit streak stands at fourteen
The Yanks with great power won six in a row
Tied at two in the tenth both seemed a no go
C.C. left early with badly pulled hamstring
The bullpen took over and heat they did bring
In the eleventh Didi swung for a double
Middleton though kept the Angels from trouble
In bottom of inning and four hours though
Ben Heller let run score, Yankees lose three, two
14th June (L 7-5 @Angels)
An early Sanchez blast put Yankees up on top
Pineda seemed unsteady and runs he couldn’t stop
A homer by Espinosa, two runs in the third
Headley tied it in the sixth, with his single Gary spurred
Simmons to Angels rescue with seventh of the year
No more runs would score tonight as bullpen kept bases clear
Didi extended hitting streak, not much else good news
Series dropped two to one, off to Oakland with the blues
15th June ( L 8-7 @Athletics)
Down 3, nothing early the Yanks came back to tie
Three runs in the sixth, but the A’s would just not die
They scored in the bottom on a yonder home run
In the top of the seventh Sanchez drove in one
A Pinder single put Oakland back on top
But Carter answered quickly with a mammoth bop
Top of ninth and the Yanks would tie it up again
Betances held A’s scoreless to send the game to ten
Castro plated Gardner in the tenth to put them up by one
Carter blooped a two run single and the Yankees day was done
16th June ( L 7-6 @Athletics)
Severino got in trouble in bottom of inning two
Allowed four runs to score and by the seventh he was through
Judge powered homer in the top of the third
In the fifth they tied it up when Torres scored
They scored one in the seventh and another in the eighth
But Holder couldn’t hold the A’s and sealed the Yankees fate
Chapman hit a single that put the A’s ahead
Casilla K’d three in ninth and sent the Yanks to bed
17th June ( L 5-2 @Athletics)
Tanaka start was not very long lasted
Struck out ten in four but got blasted
Three homers and five runs he gave up
While the Yanks batters looked like whipped pups
One more game in Cali tomorrow
Here’s hoping it wont bring more sorrow
A losing streak now at five games
Cant wait to get back on the plane
18th June (L 4-3 @ Athletics)
Last game in Oakland the team seemed inept
Again quiet bats allowed them to get swept
Hicks is out injured but Chapman is back
Cessa started for CC but couldn’t get on track
Back to New York on a six game losing streak
Hopefully getting home will start better week
