you could call her Digger? I think I heard that name once for a dog! How cute she is. Maybe you could catch her and put her on a leash. heehee. Great blog! (I have a ground hog poem somewhere but can't remember in which file!) oh, boy, I just saw her name down here. I guess I was way too late to get into the action of naming her!

@ David-interesting repellant IF I also had a PET LION! lol...@ Jag-I will try this chant of yours bc it doesn't require money and safari animal excrement! Funny one! @ Nikko-I will look into sending you one of my favorite Jewel poems sometime this week. Great to know you like children's poetry and Shel's work like I do. The Giving Tree is outstanding! I have an autographed copy of it! :) @ Susan-You bring up a very valid point...maybe I could plant a garden in my neighbor's yard behind mine to draw her out of mine! Hmmm...clever! Great thinkin' machine you are!....@ Elliot-I am awaiting this famous woodchuck write of yours...Maybe this will cause u to cross over to children's poetry...We shall name you The Sober Poet OR...The Kool Aid Drinking Poet! lol...

Hi Mar, I know...Have a heart, right?...I am feeling guilty for being mean to this gal. I found out today that a baby woodchuck is called a "chuckling"...ahhh..isn't that cute?...I have seen numerous videos how people nurture them into friendly yard pets and a few families actually have the ground hogs come up to their back door and tap on it for food...I guess we will be ordering pizza tonite!

Btw I enjoyed reading your bio :) Ah Shel Silverstein-- I wonder who brought him to my attention? Yes, The Giving Tree right? And Ah, Jewel has indeed some meaningful poetry for her songs :) So cool that you were named after a poet! Wow! I have never read her poems though...I wish you the best for your groundhog princess :D

Oh Gwen!! That is such a cutie ground hug in your bio pic! I actually was able to view the pic you put here a bit earlier but my connection zonked out and it won't load but wow-- I love that backview-- she looks huggable! can one even hug a groundhog?? Hehe can her name be Hoggies? Huggy Hoggies! Although Ruben's name is adorable :D! I'm sorry I have no clue how to help out-- ooh wee if she is preggy though (haha Preggy Hoggy) maybe catching her and releasing her elsewhere is doable? Huggies to you! :D

I could hear you shouting orders to your daughter when she was showering it. If u dont like the name Ruben gave, I would suggest one:' Groundelen'. After showering it, call it thrice with this name and it will never ever bother you , :) Jag

In a USA Today article (JAN 2012) PETA has a very aggressive stance on GROUND HOG RIGHTS, Yas...check this out-PETA says Punxsutawney Phil is being badly treated by the crowds and noise at the annual Groundhog Day festival on Feb. 2 and should be replaced with a robotic groundhog . Gemma Vaughan, Animals in Entertainment specialist for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said in a letter to organizers of the annual spectacle in Punxsutawney, PA, that groundhogs, which are normally shy and spend much of their time in burrows, "become stressed when they are exposed to large, screaming crowds; flashing lights from perhaps hundreds of cameras; and human handling." (copied from USA Today). So I guess you have a valid point, Yas--Watch out for the PETA OCCUPIERS who might show up in my yard!!! (I can just see it now!) ha ha ha.

Tom, I have read this about dried blood...I will try that out today...I will have to investigate this angle. I wonder if I have to keep reapplying it after it rains each time? It has been raining here a lot and it could get mighty expensive. There is also a spray that has the scent of other animals' urine in it. Quite pungent too. I might go with a dual approach bc I am desperate! @ Elliott--Hey, I could leave out some gin and vodka and have her read some drunken poetry with me?...hahah (IF she's NOT PREGNANT, right?...

Yeah, let's name her after the owner of the yard, right?...hahah.

I believe you can find dried animal blood at your gardening center and that should deter the little critter

No ground hog is gonna ruin my yard! My daughter was spraying her with the hose and I was hitting the sides of the shed real loud...finally she dug 2 more gargantuan holes to escape...I thought about pouring kitty litter (used) round the outside of my shed...Love the ground hog names and I am glad that u are humane when it comes dealing with these issues. I believe my state is a " do not shoot ground hogs" state...Yes, I too enjoy Jewel's poetry regarding her life on the road, hotel to hotel, with her agent and her guitar! I really enjoyed her last book and the format was very simple too. U accidentally read my entry for your contest this evening...I wrote it this evening at the park...It was a nice time. Thanks for the encouragement, Chris.
