30 Pieces of Silver

A daughter’s heart reflects virtue

Pure as gold and just as true

Her father’s words, both stern and cruel

Her debt of love, she’ll pay in full

Discussions find the going rate

Third parties tie a knot of fate

Her family leaders wine and dine

The purest pearls are cast to swine

Betrayed by those she’s grown to trust

Her heart grows cold, emotions rust

A poison spreads within her soul

It’s madness vying for control

It’s said the dogs that bark don’t bite

Yet cornered mutts still hold that right

Like pupas breaking through the crust

A hidden dagger’s borne to thrust

The vengeance sworn must be repaid

Her smiles luster hides the blade

And all of those who stained her life

Will not escape the coming knife

I believe as you have written, a family plays such an important role in their children's lives pertaining to their all-around well-being be it emotional, physical and psychological. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara
