You, I, We

You come into school
And walk with your friends
You go to first hour
And talk with your friends
I come into school
And walk to class late
I come to first hour
And start working
You put in your earbuds
And smile as your favorite song plays
I put on my headphones
And look over at you
We’re doing the same thing
Lip-syncing and hoping nobody sees
The bell rings
I walk to language arts
You walk to science
Months later, you walk into school
You go to first, second, third
I walk into school
Go to first, second, third
I walk into fourth hour
And sit down
You walk into fourth hour
And sit down
I turn around
You look forward
And wow
You have really blue eyes
And mine are matching
We act out a scene
And go to lunch
I sit down and open my lunch
You get in line and buy pizza
You finish your lunch
I finish mine
We both look up
And our eyes meet
We get up
And go to the snack line
I buy a double chocolate cookie
You buy some Doritos
And we return to our seats
We return to playing our parts
In a play called life
And soon what happens
You forget
I forget
We forget.
