The Survivors

Forever gone, forever we understand
The pain lingers on, stronger beyond
The thud of agony and the memory
Captures the groans of a desperate cry
Laid in a little rest with friends and family
to be the martyrs reunited in eternity,
As in the heart when life is over
Time closes our eyes to this world of terror.

Grief shows the path in life.
Without the big noise of revenge strife,
The loss makes us understand the gain
that death is not an end.
It is a new beginning.
Passed from the act of forgiving.
We must start again in our soul
And try to live in this new world.

The survivors, Jostled and shaken
Something more violent has awakened
The dream, the future, the vision
All the sacrifices they have seen.
Days, nights, weeks, months, years
Dark emotions and turbulent tears
We talk only of great weariness,
In light and darkness.

We surrender our will and resources.
And beat our swords into plowshares.
The scars we wear, the fears before
Prize open the torture endure.
A little healing for the wounds
Amid the howl of orphans
They play with our souls
They play with guns like toys

The world speaks of a war ending,
With lazy light words floating.
Not the peace of cease-fire,
Not even a vision of the future
