Beginnings and Ends

What is midnight than the hour between
Night and day, seen and unseen?
Sixty whole minutes that drag or fly by
Given importance—my question is: Why?
What is the difference ‘tween midnight and one?
An hour, that’s all? Another day done?
But of course not. It’s simple, you see.
Midnight is end, close, finale.
Midnight is time to look back at the day,
To reflect, to ponder, to be able to say,
“I’ve done it. I’ve made it. I have survived.
One more day down, and I’m still alive.”
Mull over the contents in your quieting mind
The contents of yesterday, what now is behind.
But midnight so dismal? This cannot be.
But of course not. It’s simple, you see.
Midnight is start, the source, the outset
Of a chance to make memories you’ll never forget.
The smiles, the laughter, the time spent with friends.
Midnights are beginnings as well as the ends.

Your poem was unique in it's positive message, that midnight isn't always about darkness and endings. I loved the rhyming and the smooth flowing words, as well! Congratulations on your first place win!
